About this data.  
This map is based on a sample of about 31,000 Mecklenburg County home sales
in 2006 and 2007, and it shows how sale prices compared with property tax values.
Current tax values are based on the 2003 revaluation. A typical home sold
in the last two years for about 20% more than its tax value.
The map colors show how that percentage varies.
The sales in the Observer analysis are similar to those county appraisers
will use as they update tax appraisals later this year.
